Press Release : Afghanistan's OBI score rose 38 points to 59 in 2012

On 23 January 2013, the International Budget Partnership (IBP) announced the results for the Open Budget Index (OBI) for 2012.Afghanistan's results show the second greatest improvement in budget transparency over all countries in the world. The OBI is used to compare the fiscal and budget transparency, participation and oversight of public finances of around 100 countries globally.

The IBP, an independent non-governmental organisation that carries out the OBI survey, said that the improvement in the availability of information aboutAfghanistan's public finances "dramatically improved" and was "impressive".

Afghanistan's OBI score rose 38 points to 59 in 2012 from a score of 21 in 2010 and 8 in 2008.Afghanistanwas in seventy-third position in 2010 and in two years it is twenty-sixth. This is indeed a huge increase.
